The 18 Burr Pieces Packing Puzzle was designed by Loren Larson and crafted by John Devost in Padauk, Bubinga, and Maple. This was John's personal copy, prior to Jerry McFarland's walnut pieces release. It's also another example of my inclination to purchase high quality puzzles from outside of my primary areas of interest. This is a beautiful puzzle to be enjoyed by another collector. Puzzle can be shipped assembled or disassembled, depending on your desired level of abuse. ;-)

This is Anderson's Delusion...unassembled. ;-( Lol. Eric is a cool guy. When one of the pieces came unglued, he took the time to fix it at no charge. I thought I could get the puzzle re-assembled, but so far, no luck. This puzzle is very interesting. As far as I know, only 20 copies of the puzzle were made. A nice Bill Darrah design made by Pelikan CZ. It's a very fun and interesting interlocking cube with 8 units missing to make the ends hollow. Four identical pieces with a ton of movement before it falls apart at the very end of both axes of movement. This excellent Jolly design is a really fun, if somewhat simple puzzle. The shuttle is caught in the cage and must be removed. I made a small run of them in 2005 and they have not been made since to my knowledge.This particular example was a production sample from an overseas factory. I was at one point attempting to have them mass produced, but could never get the quality right. The dark wood is dyed a walnut color, and the cage is simply butt glued. Most are familiar with the greedy cup, but this is the first time I have seen one made from wood. Like all greedy cups, if you fill it with water it is fine up to a certain point. But if you get greedy, and keep filling, the entire cup will suddenly drain out of the bottom! Very fun on unsuspecting victims. This reproduction of the Kamei Octagon box is very tricky to open. It's seen better days...there are a couple cracks in the miters, and it can be a little tight in high humidity. However the mechanism works fine and it's a pretty fun box to tackle with an interesting solution.
