Oloid Wobbler
Up for auction is an Oloid Wobbler made from solid hardwood. The condition and craftsmanship are very nice, and the curves are still nice and sharp. It wobbles and rolls in a straight line! "The Oloid Wobbler is a fascinating applied science toy derived from the Oloid (a geometric object created by mathematician Paul Schatz). It is formed when two disks of the same size and diameter are intersected at right angles to each other. The Wobbler is mathematically optimized, with the center of the d...

Steps by Alfons Eyckmans Oddball
In 2013 I made a small but fun puzzle named Spiral that had four board burr pieces spiraling around four stick burr pieces. Steps is its big brother...really big. With a unique level 20.3.1.4 solution it's not for the faint of heart. Solvers are reqarded by a pleasing geometric sculpture that validates your puzzle credentials big time!Construction of this puzzle is our usual very high quality. Fit is precise and should be tolerant of varied humidity.Note: Steps ships assembled. Original packagin...

Spiral by Alfons Eyckmans
Ok, this is the wicked difficult contender in this month's update. It has a unique level 14 solution with a TON of false moves and dead ends. Honestly I could barely get this little sucker apart without the solution, much less back together. As the name implies, the four ring pieces spiral around the central column of stick burr pieces. Very attractive, VERY difficult. Each puzzle constructed of fine walnut and Paduak. Fit is very good! An excellent puzzle and I'm pleased with how it came out.Not...

Secret Burr by Marcel Gillen
Secret Burr is a re-release of a puzzle I made very limited copies of in 2002. Unique in that it's difficult in both assembly and disassembly, there are two locks inside the burr that interact much like Cutler's Ball Bearing Burr. Instead of steel bearings, Secret Burr uses small wood rectangles. Precision crafted of fine hardwoods, this puzzle not only looks exotic, but has the trickiness to back up its appearance.Note: Secret Burr ships assembled. Original packaging and documentation are not i...

Partners Cube by Takeyuki Endo
Up for auction is Partners Cube designed and crafted by Takeyuki Endo. This puzzle was made for his IPP exchange for IPP 27 held in Gold Coast Australia 2007. This design is very creative and unusual, typical of his style. The goal is to Divide the 12 pieces into 2 groups of 6 pieces each and make a 3x3 cube assembly with empty spaces allowed. The cubes are connected by panels on the exterior faces of the 3x3 assembly which interlock with the cage piece to lock both cubes in place. Note: The fu...

Four Cross Twelve by Guy Brette Oddball
Another of Guy Brette's devious designs, this twelve piece burr has two different stick lengths and an interesting "cross" finished shape. It's also quite difficult with a whopping level 9.9.9 solution. I'd call it the crown jewel of this update in terms of difficulty and appearance. The maple on the short axis contrasts nicely with the purpleheart long axis, and once assembled it displays very nicely.Construction is excellent, fit is slightly loose in the dry winter weather we're having in the ...

Jack In The Box by Jesse Born
Up for auction is Jack In The Box by Jesse Born. This puzzle is number 11 out of 100 produced in 2019. Original packaging and documentation is not included, however the original prize is in place. Features very nice inlay work on the front panel. Crafted from Wenge, Holly, and hardwood inlay. Note: The original prize is stuck inside the compartment. This can be easily fixed and replaced, but I chose to leave it as the maker produced. This does not affect the function of the puzzle. ***********...

Uri Three Bars by Dario Uri
Uri Three Bars is an unusual and beautiful interlocking puzzle. This will be our second batch after an earlier, very limited release in 2015. Quo Vadis by Stephan Baumegger
Another maze! This one is TRICKY. The goal is to move the ball bearing from one side to the exit. Once you drop down the rabbit hole you realize that the state of the maze changes by pushing the shuttle up and down. So not only must you figure out the internals, but you have to figure out the state the maze is in depending on shuttle location. A maddeningly difficult and interesting design...I think this may be my favorite of the update.Construction of this puzzle is super nice, with a ton of ti...

Diversa by Yavuz Demirhan
This little gem was a last minute addition to the update. A fairly low level 7.2, it's nonetheless fairly tricky. I ended up solving it outside the box because things got tricky quickly once they were inserted. The 2:1 ratio of endgrain dispite having 2x2 sticks, and having a final 5x5 solved volume is fairly unique, and I found this design to be very well executed. The construction of this puzzle is spot on, with just a little room inside for high humidity situations. The pieces are of course mi...

Five Piece Cluster by Stewart Coffin Oddball
Ages ago I made a small batch of RD puzzles using octahedral clusters (truncated rhombic dodecahedra or chamfered cubes). I never did make the best of Coffin's design though, the Five Piece version, so I thought I'd whip up a batch after having so much fun with the Pyracubes. Five Piece Cluster has four dissimilar non-symmetrical pieces and a fifth key piece that is a single block. The serially interlocking solution is very tricky! The construction of this puzzle was done with edge beveled cubes ...

Reticulated Cubes by Lee Sallows
Reticulated Cubes is a fascinating exploration of 3x3 cube puzzles with a novel twist. Each box contains nine pieces, and there are eight possible cube solutions. The goal is to organize the pieces in the box such that any three pieces in a straight line will assemble into a cube (tic-tac-toe style). The solution is quite difficult to find!Note: There are two noticeable dents on the panel of the storage lid. See photo for detail. Original packaging and documentation is not included. Tulip by Christoph Lohe
This puzzle is more than just a pretty shape...it's also got a very interesting feature. Included with the six burr pieces is a small rectangular piece which can be added to the inside of the puzzle. Solved without the internal piece, Tulip has a level 16 solution. When the internal piece is added, the solution changes to a level 9.14...double the trouble for your money! The construction of this puzzle is excellent, with each piece milled from solid cherry stock. Fit is excellent, a little loose ...

Artifacts by Frederic Boucher
I'd long admired this design by Boucher, and finally got around to tracking him down and asking permission to make it. I'm so glad I did! It's really a great puzzle; even if you don't necessarily like packing puzzles you should give it a try. There are three solutions for packing all the wood pieces plus the metal dowl in. However, once you put the dowel in the hole, there is only one solution and it's very, very tricky.Construction of this puzzle is outstanding. The tray had to be very precisel...

Four Corners by Stewart Coffin
Taken from Stewart Coffin's Ap-Art compendium:"This is the first in a long and seemingly unending family of designs that start with the basic Star geometry, with parts then added on judiciously. It is made in four contrasting fancy woods plus a fifth for the center blocks. Here in tulipwood, oak, purpleheart, and rosewood, with center blocks of poplar. When assembled correctly, each “corner” is one kind of wood. R indicates right-handed prism block (see Appendix). In the second drawing, the ...

Space by Dan Fast
Space is an aptly named caged burr puzzle designed by Dan Fast, this design is far out. The level 173 solution (145.1.5.4.4.2.2.2.2.2.2) is a tough challenge for even the seasoned burr solver to follow along with the solution file. Disassembly without aid is approaching the limits of human capabilities, but I am certain there are a select few out there with the ability and endurance to do so. The fourth photo is 108 moves into the solve.Wonderfully crafted by legendary maker Maurice Vigeroux, t...
