"Melted Checker" is a 2D packing puzzle designed by Frederic Boucher and produced by NothingYetDesigns. Goal: Pack the 16 pieces inside the frame and make a 4x4 melted-like checker pattern (unique solution). Extra challenge: Pack the 16 pieces inside the frame so that the colors are separated (several solutions). When solved the pieces will lie flat and no force is needed. This unqiue puzzle operates like a traditional 15 slider puzzle, but due to polarization of the pieces, when certain pieces slide into positions, light is allowed to pass through (or not). A unique take on a classic design.

This multiple challenge puzzle was a design competition entry to the 2012 IPP puzzle design competition. It has different gemoeteric shapes and challenges to pack them in. Very tricky and nicely made.

"Twelve pieces exhibit all the ways that two slightly “off” squares can be joined. In the first of four challenges, you “simply” fit them all into the tray. The final challenge has only three solutions; can you absorb enough Easter Island culture to complete it?" This design is beautifully made from laser cut acrylic and has multiple challenges with it.
