Description

The "New Departure Puzzle" is an extremely colorful puzzle used to advertise New Departure bicycle coaster brakes, a General Motors Corporation product. This EDGE MATCHING PUZZLE is from 1953, OVER 70 YEARS OLD! According the the instructions on the back of the puzzle card (second illustration), the card is to be separated along the perforations into nine squares, and the cards rearranged into a 3x3 square so that the colors match at each set of common edges. This advertising puzzle is in pristine condition and displays very colorfully. The overall size of the puzzle is 6 in x 6 in (15 cm x 15 cm). THE WINNING BIDDER WILL RECEIVE TWO COPIES OF THE PUZZLE — one to keep intact for collecting purposes, and one with which to play.

The "New Departure Puzzle" is of course complete and in remarkably colorful condition for being over 70 years old. I will include a copy of the solution from the great Jacques Haubrich's three-volume Compendium of Card Matching Puzzles.
