Okto Cube by Yavuz Demirhan
Another hit from the creative genius of Yavuz Demirhan. Octo cube is a six piece board burr which must be assembled within a cube construct. The cube itself is comprised of eight identical pieces which interlock around the board burr. Assembling the cube pieces in the correct sequence is extremely difficult; this is essentially two puzzles interacting to form a whole when finished. This is a very difficult puzzle! Thirty nine moves in total are required for final assembly.Construction of this pu...

Clamp by Tim Alkema Unique Woods
Clamp is a very fun puzzle. When Tim originally sent it to me I didn't see the brilliance. After thinking about it I made up a prototype and immediately knew I wanted to offer it to my collectors. For such a simple assembly, it's surprisingly tricky to take apart! Sliding the halves back and forth and hearing the satisfying click of the magnets as they align the box is addicting. Careful or you'll never put this one down...Construction of this puzzle is outstanding! Very precise movement with a ...

Two Burrs in a Corner by Logan Kleinwaks
I've been in correspondence with Logan for a while about several designs. He was investigating the concept of interlocking burrs with pieces that also compose a packing puzzle. After he swing several ideas and designs by me, I told him I'd really like something that had a unique solution both as a packing problem as well as a burr problem. It took him a while, but wow did he come through! Two Burrs in a Corner is an extraordinarily difficult puzzle. To start, The burr pieces will pack into the co...

Spiral by Alfons Eyckmans
Ok, this is the wicked difficult contender in this month's update. It has a unique level 14 solution with a TON of false moves and dead ends. Honestly I could barely get this little sucker apart without the solution, much less back together. As the name implies, the four ring pieces spiral around the central column of stick burr pieces. Very attractive, VERY difficult. Each puzzle constructed of fine walnut and Padauk. Fit is very good! An excellent puzzle and I'm pleased with how it came out.***...

Capsula Burr by Yavuz Demirhan
While this is not an extraordinarily difficult puzzle, it's nonetheless fun and enjoyable. The concept is unique and a bit whimsical; dovetailing three stick burr pieces and three board burr pieces into a simple symmetrical burr shape. With a unique level 2.4 solution, assembly is not very difficult. Oddly I found disassembly trickier; the tolerances are accurate such that everything must line up perfectly and in a somewhat surprising way. An interesting little puzzle I'm glad I made.Constructed...

Condor's Peeper by Jack Krijnen
From Mr. Puzzle's blog post found here: Condor's Peeper "Jack Krijnen has invented a number of different 18 piece burrs in the past few years but this one stood out from the others. The puzzle has 29467 possible assemblies. To assemble the puzzle in this symmetrical colour combination the puzzle has a unique solution. This solution is a level 62 disassembly; this means that it will take a minimum of 62 moves in exactly the correct order to remove just the first piece. The puzzle requires a tota...

Wishing Well by Alexander Magyarics
Alexander Magyarics wrote about it:“I've been playing with this idea for a long time – to create a packing puzzle where one of the pieces cannot be taken out of the box and it works as a moving obstacle to make your solving process more difficult. Three pieces must be placed in the 3x3x3 cube under the 'timber', you don't need to fill the opening completely. One unit cube of the 'timber' enters the inner 3x3x3 space – it ends its journey in the middle of the upper side (the same position a...

Simultaneous Maze by William Hu
Even though I knew it would be a difficult project, I couldn't resist making this puzzle. It's a very unique concept and execution. The acrylic maze piece must be removed, and the three key pieces are simultaneously manipulated to achieve the goal. Very tricky and very interesting looking, this puzzle begs to be solved.Construction was tricky...the solid side spine and end grain key pieces were fun to make, but very labor intensive. Fit is excellent; should not have any issues with humidity.Colo...

Digigrams by Martin Watson
I always liked this design, and on a whim emailed Martin about possibly making it available again. When he replied in the affirmative, my only thought was "yay!" as I ran to the laser cutter.Digigrams was released at IPP20 and is a very clever packing puzzle. Each digit is represented, and there are only three solutions to pack them all into the tray. It's quite tricky.Crafted with precision cut acrylic and walnut, with a solid granadillo bottom. Nice pleasing fit and a compact size means it won...

Storey Maze by Tamás Vanyó
I've made several maze puzzles in the past and they were all tricky and interesting. But they were also approachable and sometimes downright friendly. Storey Maze is neither. This puzzle packs a whopping ONE HUNDRED FIFTY EIGHT moves before the first piece comes out. That's just...insane. It took so long to assemble them I'm charging a fee for the ones that were assembled. But I left about a third of them unassembled for those who want a lower price and a harder time :) This is one downright evi...

Event Horizon by Tim Alkema
Tim has been doing some very interesting work with regular burr pieces interacting with loose elements inside cages. I wanted to make one of his designs but there were several to choose from and it was a tough choice. I eventually settled on Event Horizon as a good representative of the concept. Four standard burr pieces dance around with a single cube in a box. The box has an unusual opening in the top and bottom, and hidden protrusions inside. The level 20.4.6.7.3 (whew!) solution is very diff...

Dual Maze by Tamás Vanyó
I very much enjoyed making William Hu's "Simultaneous Maze" puzzle for the last update, so when I saw that Tamás had made a sequel using two mazes and one pin, I knew I had to make it. Vanyó's design uses an identical top and bottom plate to confuse and trick the solver. I won't say much about the solution but it's a lot of fun and not what you would expect. An excellent addition to your collection, and a must have to compliment the Simultaneous design.Construction was very time consuming for ...

Moonflight by Osanori Yamamoto
This tricky puzzle by Osanori has an interesting appearance as well as an interesting solution. The two halves of the frame create a maze internally which changes state as you slide the pieces back and forth. The internal pieces dance around, moving in and out and about each other until finally they (hopefully) find their final resting spot with a symmetrical solution. Given a unique level 20.2.5 solution, this could not be called a simple puzzle, but neither is it hopelessly difficult. The obvi...
