Brian Menold's Description: This one was such a challenge for me that I decided to make two of the sides from acrylic to aid in solving. I do not believe I would have solved it without this. (I don’t have the patience) The acrylic sides add quite a bit of time to the production, especially the finishing, but I really felt that it was necessary as there are several rotations required and the 1x2 hole in the top limits visibility when assembling.

Eric's Description: This puzzle was Henry Strout's exchange puzzle at IPP 29 in San Francisco. I enjoyed solving it a lot, and decided to make a run of them. To solve the puzzle, all the pieces must be put in the box. Easy enough, except for two things. One, they must all go thorugh the 1x2 slot in the side, making the order of insertion quite important. Two, the yellowheart piece is stuck inside the box, so you have to plan around that. Quite tricky! Using a toothpick makes assembly easier, but...

Designer unknown, this is an 18-piece packing puzzle where each piece is of a different wood: including Beech, Bog oak (well over 10, 000 years old), English Oak, English Elm, Cherry, Kingswood, Purpleheart, Indian satinwood, Pink Ivory, Osage orange, Walnut, Padauk, Sycamore, Ash, Wenge, Yew, Palo Santo and Cocobolo. The fit is not as close as it might be for this type of puzzle but the collection of woods is beautiful.

IPP17 exchange puzzle. This is a 4 piece version, there also is a 5 piece version. Puzzle is sent disassembled, I shifted the pieces slightly and it came apart unexpectedly. Looks tricky to assemble so I moved on to other things.

The-F, from the NOB Puzzle Series by Nob Yoshigahara. The objective is to make the letter F using the 6 wooden pieces provided.

No Holds Barred, Laszlo and Menold. This is another puzzle where I somehow ordered it twice without realizing I already had a copy. So, here it is. This is a tricky assembly puzzle; I'm a little embarrassed by how long it took to get the pieces in the box; there's a diagonal-cut half cube interfering with the assembly at the entrance. Phred's Phenomenon, by Fred Armintage, made by Bernhard Schweitzer. It's advertised as a 4x4x4 hollow cube, but in fact it has a solid 2x2x2 cube in the center!
