Boston Tea Chest by Brian Young
Boston Tea Chest by Brian Young. A burr with a twist. The object is to take it apart and find the T in the chest. I am not sure what type of wood was used to make it. A little about myself and the puzzles. I am a solver / collector. I try to collect various types of puzzles from various designers / makers. I rotate new ones in to the collection and like to pass along puzzles to others. All the puzzles I sell are solved at least once by me. My home is smoke free and pet free. I keep the humidity...

Gobi by Alfons Eyckmans
Recently there have been a spate of 18 piece designs using 2x3 stick size. All of them were interesting, and I definitely wanted to make a representative puzzle from this style. It was difficult for me to pick one, but in the end the uniqueness of camel and rider locked inside the puzzle caught my eye.Goetz Schwandtner made himself a personal copy of this design and was kind enough to let me use this review he posted on his blog :This burr leads us out of the zoo on an expedition into the famous...

Cranium prototype by Jerry Loo
Jerry's Cranium puzzle was too tempting for me not to make. An absolutely original idea, this solid acrylic puzzle is comprised of dozens of individual pieces which serially interlock to create a menacing skull that looks like something out of an adventure film! 88 moves total required for assembly. This was a very small run of puzzles so if you're at all interested in this, better grab it quick! This is a prototype version, much bigger than the production copies. The pieces are not made to our n...

Mini Chess Board by William Hu
William continually comes up with new and innovative designs. His Mini Chessboard is no exception. An interlocking puzzle with a level 1.2.9.2 solution, it's not impossibly difficult. It IS a lot of fun to solve though, with lots of fun sliding and figuring out which piece fits where within the constraints of the fixed portions of the frame.Construction is robust, with a shouldered walnut frame and solid maple and walnut pieces. Each part of each piece is beveled all the way around...that took a...

Stumbling Blocks by Goh Pit Khiam
Stumbling Blocks is a brilliant puzzle that I've been wanting to make for a while. When Pit mentioned that he had a more difficult version I jumped at the chance to make it. Packing the four pieces into the frame is the goal, and the way to get there is amazing. I can't tell much about this puzzle without giving things away, but I'll say that it has one of the best "Ah-ha!" moments I've seen for a while. The movement of the pieces is beautiful and this puzzle rates incredibly high in overall sat...

Crystal Burr by Stephan Baumegger
Crystalburr by Stephen combines the appearance of a classic chuck style puzzle with the difficulty and complexity of a traditional six piece burr. The pieces are burr style and capped with not only an end piece, but also two side pieces on each end. This restricts motion while at the same time adding for the possibility of some very interesting movements that are otherwise unobtainable. With a level 9.4.3 solution, this is not an easy puzzle and will give even the most experienced puzzler a run ...

Trifecta by Ken Irvine Unique Woods
Trifecta was Ken's entry for the 2015 IPP design competition. It's a lot of fun, with two different goals: three copies of three different types of pieces assemble to form the given configuration, both with and without the optional three-cube bonus piece. There is a fair amount of confusing movement with disassembly, and reassembly is moderately difficult but a lot of fun. This is a solid design and a worthy addition to any collectors shelf.Construction of this puzzle is excellent. Fit is just r...

Play Ball by Stewart Coffin
Stewart sent me several experimental prototypes a while back and this one really grabbed my interest. Mostly because it looked simple...pack six "lollipops" into a box. Plus I could already see them in the solved state! I dumped them out and mixed them up and then sat there, stumped. Eventually I figured it out but it took a lot longer than I expected. A very fun, tricky puzzle that can also form a bunch of other symmetrical shapes.Construction of this puzzle is outstanding. We used a dovetail b...

6 Stick Burr by William Hu
Another brilliant design from Hu that's not what it seems. This six piece puzzle is actually a level 4.2 masterpiece which uses pins, holes and notches to move a lot more than you would expect. Moderate in difficulty; high in entertainment value! This is a very unique and deceptive design.Fit is superlative! May be difficult to solve in highly humid environments due to the very close tolerances involved.************************************************************For multiple items, combined ship...

DDD Prototype pieces by Darryl Adams / Bryan Turner / Eric Fuller
This is a prototype set of pieces for the DDD burr set crafted from aluminum by Bryan Turner. The pieces have the same notching patterns, but are 8 units long instead of the 6 unit production version. This change will prevent some of the possible assembly configurations possible with the production copies. The pieces have no numbers or letter markings on them and are made from 6mm stock, so they will interlock with other pieces from Bryan's 6mm burr piece series, which can be found here: 6mm b...

Pack Three by Osanori Yamamoto
Pack 3 is a wonderful little gem of a packing puzzle by Mr. Yamamoto. The three pieces fit inside a 3x3x2 box with a very unusual opening. There are two solutions, one trivial and the other tricky. The trivial solution puts the pieces in the box, while the tricky and intended solution is to put the pieces in as an apparent 3x3x2 with no holes showing from the opening. A wonderful concept, and it was nice to make another of his designs after so long.Construction of this puzzle is very very good...

L-Bert Hall by Ronald Kint Bruynseels
This is the first 3x3x3 assembly with nine identical three unit pieces and a single solution. Groundbreaking work from Ry, nicely made with some of my better exotic wood stock. Special care was taken with the holes so they are crisp, sharp and centered. I'm very happy with the way this puzzle turned out. Shipped SOLVED; I recommend dumping the puzzle out without looking for maximum solving fun. Box tolerances are close for a nice fit.************************************************************Fo...

Camouflaged Burr by Emil Askerle
I had already chosen the puzzles for the next update when Emil posted the Disguised and Camouflaged burr designs. I immediately contacted him for permission and squeezed them into the schedule because I thought the idea was so unique. Take a regular six piece burr but chop a piece or two in half and secure them. BOOM, now you have a traditional looking six piece burr puzzle that behaves very differently than usual. I used contrasting woods to give a visual hint of the unusual nature of these two...
