this was Kikuchi's very appropriate Xmas present for 2019.

The motief if this Karakuri box is "Retaining wall of masonry". The stone part is made in two colors like a marquetry style andsomething will be emphasized after the mechanism parts moved. This puzzle was Henry Strout's exchange puzzle at IPP 29 in San Francisco. To solve the puzzle, all the pieces must be put in the box. Easy enough, except for two things. One, they must all go thorugh the 1x2 slot in the side, making the order of insertion quite important. Two, the yellowheart piece is stuck inside the box, so you have to plan around that. Quite tricky!

This three piece devil is a crafty level 24 solution with TONS of dead ends and trickiness. The skeletonized traditional three piece shape looks stuning in contrasting woods, and the completed puzzle is surprisingly stable.

Tripla is a 3-piece interlocking puzzle with an icosahedral symmetry in the solved state. It is made of 3 mm stainless steel with matte finish. Tripla may look innocent but it is trickier than it seems. Comes with a QR code that can be scanned to obtain the solution.

The Topstar Puzzle was developed as a Christmas present for Karakuri Members in 2018.The crafter comments on his work in the following manner, " The star on the tree top is symbolic of the star in Bethlehem. This year as well, I was conscious of the Christmas motif I chose. I think perhaps you could use it as an ornament after unfolding up the widget."This puzzle evolves into a unique shape but is not very difficult to solve.

The goal is to make a 5x5x3 assembly. While the level 2.3.4.4.3 solution isn't very high, the rotation involved is very tricky.Once the puzzler starts solving it it becomes clear that most of the pieces have to go through the ring somehow. The tricky part is figuring out exactly how to make that happen. When you finally achieve this it will leave a grin on your face :)

This was Laszlo Molnar's IPP design competition entry at IPP38.Goal is to get the three holly pieces into the box through the small hole.Quite tricky!

One of Kagen Sound (nee Shaefer)'s early designs.Unlike his more well known boxes, this is a 6 pc burr with 2 solutions.

This level 10 4x4x4 cube is by the prolific Goh Pit Khiam,made in multiple hardwoods (marked Mach/Pad) on the box.Fit is very tight, could be improved with light sanding of some faces,but it is solvable with a bit of effort.

This is a very challenging puzzle box from Simon Nightingale; produced for IPP34, it is the first in a series of 3 boxes. It is unique both in its mechanism and in that it is made of corian. Puzzles are kept in a pet-free room of a smoke-free home, temperature consistent between 68 and 73 F, with humidity between 50 and 55%.
