Description

Stewart Coffin, the famous puzzle inventor, designed Jupiter around 1971. It is made from 60 triangular stick segments. 5 such stick segments are glued together to form a total of 12 pieces. The design is covered under US-Patent: D-232571 (1974). The puzzle was made out of zebra, Osage orange, bloodwood, cherry, white oak, and walnut. The size of the assembled puzzle is roughly 15 cm/ 5.9 inches in diameter.

A triacontahedron can be enclosed with an arrangement of thirty sticks with a triangular cross-section. If these sticks are split longitudinally into two identical halves and then joined in groups of five (one of each color) to make twelve symmetrical puzzle pieces the Jupiter results. It has six sliding axes and the final step in assembly is the mating of two identical halves.

*There is a tiny piece of paper inside the puzzle, but we do not want to take it apart, so we do not know what is on the paper :)!
