The original design of The Slider was done in the early 1960's. The puzzle looks like a standard 18-piece burr (which I had not seen before at the time I designed it). To unlock the burr, one needs to move three pieces in different directions at the same time (coordinate motion). I used slant cuts to enforce this.
In 2010 I decided to use this design as the basis for my souvenir puzzle. The puzzle was made more difficult by adding a locking pin and magnet.
This was my souvenir puzzle at the 30th International Puzzle Party.
