traditional Japanese puzzle box - 6 sun, 12-step, kuroasa
from the Japanese shop Izumiya in Hakone, maker and date unknown.
the end panels move sideways and vertically, and the box rotates on a base. there is an additional secret compartment in the lid, perhaps suitable for papers.
please note the slight scratch in the base (last photo). one panel has a locking pin that sets into the base, and the previous owner clearly didn't pull the panel up all the way.
