Description
This is Stewart Coffin’s most well known coordinate motion puzzle. It uses six pieces, of which three are identical and the other three are their reflexive pairs -- the puzzle itself is essentially a slightly modified version of the Triumph puzzle, with each piece having an extra prism block attached on one end to make a hook which wraps around its neighboring piece, thus forcing the coordinated motion of pieces.

The puzzle has two solutions -- the preferred solution (for which the puzzle is named) can be quite tricky to assemble because all six pieces must move simultaneously in different directions! Looking at the photograph of the expanded puzzle, you can see that the tips of the pieces are barely touching each other, yet are still holding the assembly intact. Pushing the pieces any further will cause the whole thing to collapse. The reason that this puzzle is so difficult to assemble is because the only way to get the pieces together is by building them in this on-the-verge-of-collapsing manner.

Once the pieces are assembled in this preferred configuration, the puzzle is rather pleasing to play with because the pieces can be made to expand by simply placing six fingers in the proper place and squeezing the puzzle open. Coffin named this puzzle, Rosebud, because he likened the expanding puzzle to a blooming flower. Shifting your grip on the puzzle slightly causes the pieces to collapse back together.

The alternate solution is significantly less interesting -- the assembled puzzle separates into two mirror image halves which themselves require coordinate motion to further break apart into three identical pieces each.
