Description
Designed and built by Don Closterman of Rhode Island. Don was a master of puzzle design but unfortunately he passed away in 2010. Each Closterman cube puzzle limited production series had its own unique design, rare and collectible.
I was really hesitant about putting this up for sale - but I have solved it many times and I really need the space.
Talking about space - this is a large puzzle! At a time when many puzzles are created small to save on materials and shipping this is a hefty 13x13x13 cm, ie more than 2 cm voxel size. It is a wonderful feeling to work with these pieces of Canarywood and the wood aroma adds to the experience.
The cube disassembles into 14 pieces, first piece comes loose after 17 moves. Disassembly is a nice challenge with a number of dead ends. Reassembly is really tricky but definitely doable. The original hand drawn solution is included or Burr Tools file available on request.
The Lego minifig in the picture is just for size comparison, it is not included - otherwise my son would get mad at me :-)
Rob Stegmann's website notes:
"... A beautiful series of interlocking, sequential (dis)assembly polycube puzzles in cages.
Closterman identifies his puzzles using a code of the form T-S-N-P-M, where:
T is the type of puzzle – C for cage
S is an arbitrary identifier Closterman assigns to a given design with a particular solution method
N is simply the number of cubies in the overall puzzle, which seems to include empty spaces (e.g. 6x6x6 = 216)
P is the number of pieces including the cage
M is the number of moves to remove the first piece, which seems to be omitted if it is only 1 move"
