Convolution (cube) was designed by Stewart Coffin.
Pelikan made a spherical version of it, which still requires a rotation just like the cube.
Pelikan reports on its website:
We used 6 kinds of hard wood. Wenge, Padouk, Acacia, Maple, American Walnut, Zebrano and Cherry.
Puzzle is made of 7 different parts. Be careful, this puzzle includes rotation and it has only one method of composition.
This specific copy was very tight two weeks ago, and had a broken glue joint (which I repaired).
After settling for two weeks at 45% humidity, it is now a bit loose, as can be seen in the pictures.
Also, it has less vibrant colours than the picture on the Pelikan website suggests.
All together this convolution ball is a great puzzle design and fun to solve, but not a top notch display piece.
Maybe it tightens up a bit at a higher humidity...
