This second iteration in the Galaxy series has a very different solution than Galaxy one, upping the ante with a level 7 solution. Movement is expansive since it goes largely in the opposite direction that Galaxy 1 did. The solver faces the same conundrum they did with Galaxy one, being easily able to identify the vertical pieces yet arranging the marblewood pieces in the spiral shape remains the challenge. Frank's designs can be few and far in between, but are generally worth waiting for. "Burr Bones" is no exception. This three piece devil is a crafty level 24 solution with TONS of dead ends and trickiness. Double Cross was Tom Rodgers exchange puzzle at IPP 29 in San Francisco. Designated #240 by Stewart Coffin, it looks fairly simple with six thicker sticks intersected by six thinner sticks. Solving it is anything but, as the angles are very confusing and you always end up with that one piece that won't fit. I'm delighted with this puzzle, it's a heck of a lot of fun. A nice compliment to Basket Burr, Aubade ups the difficulty considerably. This standard six piece burr gets a boost from the frame structure that contains it. Notes is a very unique concept by the clever Mr. Vanyo. Reminiscent of one of my favorite puzzles (MINE's Cube in Cage), Dinlas bumps it up from a 3x3 cube to a 4x4. Assembly is VERY tricky, with complicated manipulations at unexpected points. Impossible Triangle of Three Cubes is actually not impossible, it's quite approachable in fact. Three odd shaped pieces come together to form three joined cubes. As mentioned elsewhere, I enjoy odd shaped burr puzzles. Some of them are less fun though when built...they're shaky or don't move or interact well. The Le Taupe by Alfons didn't have that problem. I love hidden mazes, and Tim's design really brings it! A single burr piece is locked into the box by two cubes. They dance around the interior until, if you're skilled (or very lucky), the internals come completely out. Packing them back in is another challenge entirely, with a level 15.4 solution! Five is the magic number! This "Turning Interlocking Cube" has a level five solution, with five rotations and five different wood types.
