Eric’s descriptionSoma in Case is another offering from design genius Hajime Katsumoto. The seven soma pieces must be packed into a 5x3x2 space. Not too tough, except that the lid also has a cube secured to it and so the pieces must maneuver around the obstruction. Over 100,000 solutions, only one is assemblable with a combined 14 moves necessary. This is a difficult, elegant design.Construction of this puzzle is outstanding, with sturdy box joinery and fully beveled cube pieces.

The Helical Burr stands 4 inches tall and was designed by Derek Bosch and crafted by Steve Nicholls. Eric says "Strap is (in my mind) an interesting successor to Alkema's Clamp puzzle. The two pieces are filled by four cubes which can manuever internally. The solution is tricky and non-intuitive...all pieces are accessable so there is no need for gravity shifting. There is a rotation shortcut which is quite apparent with disassembly but not at all apparent during assembly, which is nice in my book...almost like two different puzzles. Eric says "Box with Two Balls is a fascinating animal. Three pieces trapped inside an ash box creates an ever changing maze for the two marbles trapped within. The acrylic bottom allows the solver to view the manipulations, which is absolutely necessary given the insane level 23-20 solution. This is a really unique interlocking/maze hybrid and a ton of fun to solve! Construction of this puzzle is excellent, with a shouldered cage, floated bottom and two fancy, shiny marbles longing ...

Eric says "I'd long admired this design by Boucher, and finally got around to tracking him down and asking permission to make it. I'm so glad I did! It's really a great puzzle; even if you don't necessarily like packing puzzles you should give it a try. There are three solutions for packing all the wood pieces plus the metal dowel in. However, once you put the dowel in the hole, there is only one solution and it's very, very tricky"

Berlin consists of eight pieces which dance around in a flat, board frame.  I know nothing about the puzzle except for the designer and manufacturer and am making an educated guess at the wood varieties. When I bought it the disassembly level was 7.3.2.3.3.3.3.3 which is a comfortable and enjoyable solve but Burrtools disclosed a second assembly with level 25.11.4.4.2.3.3.3.  This I found to be more satisfying and is how I will ship the puzzle (unless the buyer says otherwise).
