9-step puzzle box made of around 450 different pieces, 144 for the main sliding mechanism (poplar plywood) and 300 for the marquetry surrounding it (red padauk and grey sycamore). Produced in Occitanie with sustainable woods and inspired from Luc Schuiten's Nogegon comic book (an important art form in France).

Designed and first released at IPP in 2009, Surround is closely related to the 3/4/5 cubes designs by Ichiro. In this case, six pieces must be used to surround the solid cube in such a way that is self-supporting. Two solutions using magnets are possible, with another "rule-breaker" solution that does not use magnets and covers the cube completely! The finished shape is pleasingly symmetrical and displays well.

Snake pit 2 is one of an excellent series of packing puzzles from Yavuz Demirhan. Yavuz is a great designer and always seems to give the solver what they want.
