Harry Nelson is a famous recreational mathematician. He spent most of his career at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories working on early supercomputers. He was the editor of the Journal of Recreational Mathematics for five years. "Slide-Trom-Bones" is Harry's mathematically intricate sliding piece exchange puzzle from the 20th International Puzzle Party held in Los Angeles in 2000. The puzzle is beautifully crafted in three woods by the great Wayne Daniel (Interlocking Puzzles). The intricacies of the puzzle are too hard for me to explain, so I've included photos of both sides of the instruction sheet which accompany the puzzle.
"Slide-Trom-Bones" comes as it was received at IPP20 in 2000, complete in its original plastic bag with its original instruction sheet. I will include a copy of the solution to "Slide-Trom-Bones" from the IPP20 exchange booklet.
