Windmill is famous and prolific puzzle designer Stewart Coffin's design number 144. It's a tray packing puzzle, the idea behind it stemming from the dissection of a square into 68 isosceles right triangles and combining them into 17 dissimilar non-symmetrical puzzle pieces. (I guess that only great minds can think of tortuous challenges such as this!) For more information on Windmill, including the origin of its name, go here to Stewart's AP-ART book, p. 170. This copy of Windmill was beautifully laser cut and engraved in cherry by long-time exchange puzzle producer Walt Hoppe, and used by the late great Tom Rogers (co-founder of the Gatherings for Gardner) as his exchange puzzle at IPP23 held in Chicago in 2003. I will include a copy of the solution to Windmill from the IPP23 exchange booklet.
