The goal of this puzzle is to scramble and the re-arrange the picture/text on the top of the puzzle.
The bottom shows the same picture/text, that does not scramble.
The text reads "Normal L. Sandfield" "Robert E. Sandfield" and "The Brothers'Adventures Continue!"
How does it work?
The puzzle has 3 layers that can be rotated independently by hand on the outside.
An internal gearing system makes 10 disks in the top surface rotate when one or more outer layers are rotated.
Rotating only the top layer makes 5 of the 10 disks rotate (at 2 different rotational speeds).
Rotating only the middle layer makes the other 5 disks rotate (again at 2 different rotational speeds).
Rotating only the bottom layer does the above 2 things at once, messing up the top surface big time!
In the 2nd picture only 2 rotations of about 45 degrees were made...
The puzzle comes in a cardboard box with instruction sheet in 5 languages, this sheet (picture 4) describes only how to hold and manipulate the 3 layers. The 3rd picture shows the bottom of the puzzle and the included locking tab that prevents the puzzle from scrambling. The puzzle will be shipped in the solved state.
Two equal copies of this puzzle are available, this listing is for only one of them.
Note: it appears that this puzzle has been produced with other prints as well...
