The goal is to remove the ring (see last picture, no spoiler).
This design is called "low number bolt" even though it is #9 according to Haubrichs catalog of bolt and nut puzzles.
During the solve, a part of the inside can be seen and is rusty, this is not visible in the assembled state and does not affect the solve.
