The founding Karakuri craftsman, Akio Kamei, began producing fine wood puzzles in the 1970's in Japan. A museum quality example of Kamei's early kumiki work, designed in 1978, this is an original artist's piece produced in the early '80s, not a later reproduction. Note the fine woodgrain in this example. Another example is featured in the Slocum collection at: http://webapp1.dlib.indiana.edu/images/item.htm?id=http://purl.dlib.indiana.edu/iudl/lilly/slocum/LL-SLO-003073
Objective is to take apart the Oak 12-piece burr which forms a cage around a Walnut cube, then open the puzzle box and locate the secret compartment with the artist's hanko. Finishing and movement are excellent. Includes original box labeled "K-12 #14".
