Brian Menold's description: I haven’t made any of Tom’s designs for a while and while looking for ideas I was intrigued by the simplicity of this design! A simple box with 4 seemingly easy obstructions uniformly spaced around the interior and 4 rather straight forward pieces. I also had acquired a nice piece of spalted beech that I wanted to be able to use on a box to show off the grain and spalting. A few of the spalted beech pieces required a small amount of filling in some softer areas but the look of the spalting is fabulous! The holly was probably not cut during the winter and has lost some of its’ whiteness. Some pieces display the gray or blueish color that occurs, but it provides a good complementary look to the beech. Oil and wax finish. Moves: 8.6.10.3
