Description
Designed and crafted by puzzle artists Robert Yarger and Eric Fuller, the Stickman No 4 Puzzlebox has two hidden compartments that can only be opened by properly manipulating the wooden tiles around the four faces of the box. Tiles move from one side to the next by use of a unique all-wood mechanical clutch. This clutch can be pulled up to grab a tile, then retracted, turned and reopened to position the tile on another side. Each compartment is protected by a unique magnetic lock that will only release when three special tiles are manipulated into the proper positions positions. After this, there is another final tricky move that will leave many baffled.
.
This box has been quality hand-crafted from over 100 intricately cut maple, bloodwood and cocobolo pieces and required over 22 hours to make. While this particular line of puzzleboxes sold out years ago, this last remaining box was never sold due to a flaw in its lacquer finish. The effected area has been refinished especially for this auction. It is now in a perfect (and subsequently uncirculated) condition, and should provide generations of use when properly handled.
.
Like the boxes from the original puzzle line, one chamber of this box also contains a rare Lee Krasnow miniature puzzle inside and comes with a 6-page full color instruction booklet. The 3rd picture shows examples of the Krasnow puzzles it may contain. This box is signed by both artists and is number 31 out of a limited edition set of 45. It is of moderate difficulty to solve, and measures approx. 9” x 4”.
.
I apologize to the many collectors who have specifically requested this last box over the years. It was my intention (after refinishing it) to make it available by casting lots, but there were so many of you and it has been so long that I no longer recall everyone’s name. Subsequently, listing it for auction at its original price of $365 and notifying everyone now seems like the fairest way to proceed. I also apologize, but I am terrible at taking pictures. The pictures used for this box are actually the ones used for the original website listing, but the box for sale is identical in appearance.
