Description
By all rights, this Stickman Burl Tile Puzzlebox should not exist. Assembled from spare parts, it does not have a limited edition number, and therefore falls outside of the limited edition set. Normally, such spare parts would be tossed. But I, (Robert’s apprentice), just could not bear the thought of scrapping them. With Robert’s permission, they were salvaged from their dismal fate, and given to me with the understanding that, if I put in all the required work, I could have this last copy for myself. It is unfortunate that I now find it necessary to part with this wonderful puzzle design.
Being crafted from leftover parts, one might think of this puzzle as being the “runt of the litter”, but far from it. The amount of love and attention required to bring it to life has actually made it one of the better boxes from this series. It is also the only box with the silhouette of a dragon on its tiles. Originally, all boxes were supposed to have this effect, but the process proved far too time consuming to implement on an already expensive puzzle design.
This puzzle has a single hidden chamber, which can be accessed only after manipulating all its tiles and completing its intricate burl patterns, and by extension, its dragon silhouette. One end of this box also twists, which allows tiles from one side of the box to be moved and exchanged with the other. A well-hidden trick must also be discovered to rotate individual tiles into proper orientations. Picture a sliding tile puzzle where tiles can move between sides, and can also lift and rotate in order to solve.
Like all other puzzle from this run, once this box is solved, its internal logic bars can be flipped over and re-inserted to create an entirely different solution process. This secondary solution requires just as much logical deduction as the primary method, but does not necessarily require that the patterns on both sides match.
This puzzle has been hand-crafted from leopardwood and walnut, with exotic burl tiles and sides. It measures 7.5” x 4.5” x 4.5”, and comes with the official Stickman hallmark. However, since it falls outside of the limited edition set, it is marked as a prototype in its included instruction book, and has an “X” as its limited edition number. Pictures of the tiles arranged to form its dragons silhouette can be requested, but are not pictured here, so that no hints are revealed.
