Description
New Twinbox by Yoshio Okiyama
This is the very special TwinBox by Mr. Yoshio Okiyama. This box is made like 2 standard 10 move boxes which have been joined and must be moved in a way that allows both boxes, joined as one to move in such a way as to allow each box to move in a series of moves that leads to a solution that allows both sides of this special box to align in such a way that both sides of the allow each top to be removed and solve this unique Secret Box.
The box is made of solid wood to create the designs on the exterior of this box in a Yabane pattern and a Kiritigaimatsu pattern. The box is made of Katsura, Ramine and Dogwood of Oak. Mr. Okiyama says this box should be called “art box”. This is the second in a series of 3 boxes he made using this technique of combining two boxes to create one box that is more unique than either of the original 2 boxes. They are finished to perfection and make an excellent box.
This box is 3.5” X 3.5” X 7” the box is signed with the familiar red stamp signifying this is an authentic Okiyama box. I have had my box (used for the photos) for almost 10 years and it works as well as the day I received it from Japan. This box is one of Mr. Okiyama boxes which display his creativity and I believe also shows his skill as a Master Craftsman in this area of creating Karakuri Boxes and many other woodworking projects. Mr. Okiyama was a very skilled craftsman who excelled in making the most complex boxes made in the Traditional style we know as the modern Himitsu-bako.Originally the Secret Box had only two methods to create the opening sequence of the Secret Box. The original Type A style designed by Takajiro Ohkawa with advice from Mr. Goto and Mr. Yamanaka which does not have a sliding strip of wood called a Kannuki but rather a piece of the end of the box move down and allows the top to slide off. Type B has the familiar Kannuki which slides to the right or left on the end of the box and moves to allow the top to slide off. The combination of these two moves has created a method allowing for more moves and tricky techniques which has made the Secret box a source of fun for over 100 years. Then we get a box like this Twinbox which breaks the rules and creates a new method for solving these special boxes.
The box is new, in the original packaging and ready to add to any collection a very special Secret Box! Shipping to be determined at end of auction. Paypal is preferred however Money Orders, personal checks payable in US Funds is aacceptable.
