Description
This box is from a group of made by the late Mr Okiyama. It has his honko as verification he made this box and is one of the smallest boxes made by this Master Craftsman. Mame means Bean like a coffee bean and refers to the size of the box. It is approximately 1.75" X 1.25" X 1.2" These boxes were made in such a way as to allow them to be taken apart more than the usual 18 move box will allow, it will allow you to take both ends of the box as well as the top and bottom pieces (the longest widest part of the box) making it a 22 move box if taken all the way apart. If this is done use care as the two end pieces are different as are the top and bottom pieces. Because these boxes are handmade it is critical that all parts of the box go back together in the order they were taken apart (OK reversed but if this is attempted you will know what I mean.) This is from the first group of boxes I received from Japan that were stamped with the sign of Mr. Okiyama his Honko or Hanko as this seal or stamp is called. An excellent box made like all of his boxes beautifully made and a prize to hold. Best of luck!
