Oskar's Matchboxes Padauk/ Yellowheart by Oskar van Deventer (1)
Oskar's Matchboxes has always been one of my favorite designs. In terms of originality, appearance and overall appeal, very few puzzles come close. The five dissimilar pieces consist of an outer box and inner tray cleverly glued together. The goal is to assemble the pieces so that every tray is contained inside a box. With only two solutions, this is quite tricky!Oskar’s Matchboxes is a very time-consuming puzzle to make, with all pieces constructed using the same shoulder joinery that we used...

Chocolate Box (Large)
Pack six identical pieces into a cylindrical box. When you close the lid, it cannot touch the pieces! Each piece is made from four truncated rhombic dodecahedra, also called edge-beveled cubes. Solving this puzzle is not difficult but requires some "out of the box" thinking! This puzzle is mentioned in an article in CFF #108 (Cubism For Fun). This is the large version, the rhombic dodecahedra have a diameter of 2 cm.This puzzle is impossible to make out of wood. OK, not impossible, but ...

Board Burr Rack
Eric says: "The second puzzle in this
update by Perez, Board Burr Rack looks quite simple. Simply slide four
burrs into the rack spaces created by the frame. Easy, right?
Unfortunately the two cubes trapped inside the rack makes that task
substantially more difficult. Each board move affects its neighbors due
to the two unit size of the cube it's interacting with, creating a
shifting maze of confusion. When fully assembled, none of the boards are
able to be completely removed witho...

Pocket Pento
Eric says "I like *some* packing
puzzles, and this one made the cut. It's a set of pentominos and a
simple box, yet there is only ONE solution to packing them all in. A
truly extraordinary achievement! I interpreted this one with a lot of
panache, using 12 different woods for the pieces (Canary, Bubinga,
Yellowheart, Peruvian Walnut, Paduak, Wenge, Shedue, Mahogany, Ipe,
Bocote, Cherry, Ash). The tolerances are very precise, and this puzzle
may be a bit tight at first in highly hum...

One Hole
Eric says "A simple box with simple
pieces that is anything but simple to solve. The interlocking solution
is a unique level 6.2.3.4.5 which if you're a nerd like me is kind of
amusing. There's plenty of room in the box, and with over 40k solutions
but only one assemblable, you'll soon be cursing Bram's name. Just
remember to blame him, not me. I'm just the woodworker."

Elena's Burr
Eric says "Elena's burr is an
interesting variation with a lot of tricky movement. The level 13.7
solution will keep you very very busy. Disassembly alone is a feat, with
lots of dead ends. Reassembly without directions is extremely
difficult. Elena's burr is an elegant design, and the ability to come up
with a unique solution at such high levels with simple pieces is an
achievement. I really enjoyed making and playing with this one!"

Inaccurate Burr
Eric says "
It's not easy to come up with a new variation on the traditional six
piece burr, but Juno came up with a great one! Because pairs of two
pieces are off-centered, the assembled shape of the puzzle looks
inaccurate though the pieces need to be accurate. The puzzle is based on
one of the notchable sets of a level 9 combination. Thanks to the
off-centered pieces the puzzle has unique solution and is very confusing
to assemble!
Construction of this puzzle is perf...

Loopy Burr
Eric says "The Loopy Burr came from the genius brain of Junichi; a very
unusual six piece interlocking puzzle with pieces that form three
intermingled loops once in the proper position. Finding that position
takes eleven moves, and is downright tricky due to the space caused by
the loops. Good luck!
Construction of this puzzle is outstanding, with our usual precision down to several thousandths of an inch."

Pack six identical pieces into the hexagonal box. Each piece is made from four rhombicuboctahedra. This puzzle looks quite different from the (large) version, but the solution is the same. Solving this puzzle is not difficult but requires some "out of the box"

Byway Secret 2 (Fujin Special Ed.) - Karakuri
"This is the 2nd version of the Byway Secret series. There are 2 rooms inside, and you'll be able to open the 1st room soon. But, it takes 10 moves to open the 2nd room, and you'll miss your way to open. The right side and the reverse side will intertwine and move each other. It was made with a new mechanism that is an application of traditional Himitsubako's bar device."Includes original box and solution.------------------This is one of the hardest Karakuri I have solved - the 2nd compartment i...

Remove the Yolk
"A participant of the 2010 IPP Design Competition, this devilish take apart puzzle is not for the faint hearted. It's extremely difficult to open, and even more difficult to fully understand. The mechanism is simple enough, but figuring out the exact principle is difficult. The goal is to simply open the egg and remove the "yolk" (in this case a US quarter coin). Individually manufactured by Robrecht in the EU, this puzzle is fairly heavy and very solid. It will not be mistaken for a mass produc...

Mirrorkal Escher
This clever puzzle is composed of 9 cubes and a frame. The cubes have some sides with portions of Escher images, other sides are clear and reveal an internal mirror that can be positioned to display adjoining images. The cubes must be aligned correctly to display the proper image. A counter-intuitive twist on the sliding-block category of puzzles. Blocks can be rotated to result in one of five different drawings by M.C. Escher. Measures approximately 5 x 5 x 1.25 inches. Copyright 2008 by Recent...

Trick Padlock #23 : Aligarh Heart
This is one of a series of locks I am selling. Mostly (all?) Indian manufacture and best described as "rustic". All are in working condition, none are particularly tricky. Condition is variable on most of these. Oil, Grease, Rust all present in varying degrees on these locks. If you have ever bought locks from India (as I did) you should know the kind of thing you are getting.
