I've been sitting on this design for quite a while now, waiting until I had the time to make it. I really liked the meta aspect of a set of pentominos hiding inside a larger set, but I knew it would be an undertaking to craft. The frame and pieces were very time consuming, with shouldered joinery, through milling on the connector pieces, and every edge beveled on the smaller pentomino set. This puzzle was simply a lot of work, I knew I'd have to undercharge for it, but I'm glad I made it anyway....

This is a nifty little puzzle. Not too tough, but fun to solve and it looks good displayed. I thought the idea was interesting, and there is a "big brother" version with the 2 cage pieces wrapped around a six piece burr that I plan to follow this up with.Construction is robust, with each joint reinforced by a small .05 shoulder. When I saw this design (along with "Begonia") I knew immediately I wanted to make it. Blurring the line between a packing puzzle and an interlocking puzzle, the goal is to construct the 3x3 cube inside the box. Tougher than you might imagine since the opening is only 2x2. The level 9.2 solution isn't too terribly tricky to disassemble, but the openness of the cage and fairly flat nature of the pieces makes figuring out reassembly very difficult. Galaxia is a great display and play puzzle. With a fairly simple 5.5 solution it's not too tough to solve but looks great when completed. Excellent for a coffee table or somewhere equally accessible. Ray took the Slideways design and went a lot further down the road with his Double Slideways design! With two sets of three identical notch-able pieces, it's very tricky and confusing to solve. This was Rays exchange puzzle for IPP this year and from what I hear it was very well received. A limited number have been finished and prepared for sale here; when they're gone they're gone!
