Strictly speaking, this puzzle would be classified as a member of the board-burr family, however the manner in which the pieces interlock together is most unusual when compared to more typical board-burr puzzles. One of the particularly interesting characteristics of the design is that all six pieces can effectively be extended outward as much a desired without interfering with the assembly process. Here at Pacific Puzzleworks, we take advantage of that characteristic by making the shape of the puzzle resemble an egg. Not only is the egg-shape cute, but more importantly it makes the solving process significantly easier because incorrectly placed pieces tend to look wrong, as compared to a perfectly round or square shaped puzzle where incorrectly placed pieces do not stand out as obvious errors.
Although the egg-shape does help the solver determine where each piece properly fits, the process of actually getting all six pieces locked together takes some careful consideration. As can be seen by the back side of the SOLUTION SHEET, several shifting moves are required to maneuver the last piece in position and then close all six pieces back in towards the center of the puzzle.
Standing a mere 1.5" tall, this small scale puzzle easily fits in your pocket or purse, and makes an excellent companion for long trips, boring meetings, or simply taking a break from whatever else you were busy working on. The sturdy wooden pieces will happily take the abuse of being quickly thrown back into your pocket when your bus or boss suddenly arrives.
Pacific Puzzleworks proudly manufactures each puzzle from eco-friendly sustainably harvested cherry, walnut and maple veneer that is produced locally. We glue and press these super-thin veneer sheets together into our own high-quality 5-ply and 7-ply laminate products. Using our special contrasting-top-layer 7-ply material, Faberge Knot is precision laser etched and cut, meticulously sanded and finished by hand, and delivered to you in an assembled state.
